Has anyone fished the Llis of late ?
How is the place holding up,ive not fished it for the last two years so have lost touch with what is happening over there.
Is the place still under bailiff control, has there been any new stock put in,and is the catch rates increasing or have they died a death.
Just curious tbh, would like to wet a line in the near future.

last season i heard of people pulling out 6-8 in a single session confirmed results as well. Have only fished it the once with no luck which seemed to surprise a few people lol must just be me: There's definitely a cracking stock of them there though! All the fish were just under 10lb. Am still looking for my first double figure pike, anyone know any good spots???

Took most of mine on the railway side deep pegs, and along the margins using deadbaits and plugs.
Most to deadbaits tho.

Had a recce over there today funnily enough. Weed is still a bad problem. Mat, no-one swims out there to cut the weed down anymore, remember them days ?? I also noted that although overgrown, the tree planted in Paul Cheshires memory is still there They appear to be trying to dredge the Lliswerry end again, and as far as I can tell, with no more success than when we got Fitzys in. Such a shame that Newports finest pond has fallen to such a low Still, while its still there theres always hope

I remember the "swim in's" like it was yesterday, seemed to be the only way to overcome most of it tbh,and big pat doing his yearly dive to see if the spring was still active.
Ah those were the days.
But like you say,it is a shame NAA couldn't put a bit of effort into returning the Llis to its former glory, after all,if it wasn't for the Llis and st julians pond,we wouldn't have the club/assosiation we have now.
I think things have deffinately improved over the years, but the Llis surely needs more attention, its just ppl are not prepared to put up with the hassle we did all those years ago.
I have thought of returning to the club many times over the last few months, but i think with new blood on the committee,i wont be welcomed back with open arms.
Shame really.

FOR MAT
It all depends on what you said to the committe on the last occasion!!!!!
Seriously, if you want to be involved with the Lis, but not have any of the hassle and responsibilty of a committee member, that can be arranged. There are plans underway with Newport Council to tidy the whole place up, so if you know anyone interested, contact any of the club officers who are listed on this website's contact page. Martyn t ;D

FOR MAT It all depends on what you said to the committe on the last occasion!!!!! Martyn t ;D Hi martin, and thanks for the reply. To put it straight,i didn't say anything to the committee that was out of order,i think that part has been miss understood tbh. I took the decision to nurse my father after the season closed because he was very ill,as it happens we found out two days before he died he had cancer in both lungs, and at the time we were giving him 24 hr nursing. I recieved a phonecall from les handy asking me what my intentions were regarding the club, and if i was coming back. i told him i had no intention of leaving but needed time to collect my thoughts on what was more important in life (at the time it was my dad,and i thought this was understood, obviously not ) I also told him that i as a bailiff, jnr match sec, committee member etc was too much for me too handle at the time, and needed time out from the club with the view of coming back in a lesser capacity. I was then told by someone who i have fished with in the past that my services were no longer required as the club needed someone who was prepared to put more effort into there work. (this took me back as i always thought my work with the club had been appreciated in the past) I then heard through the grapevine that there had been a big shuffle on the committee (obviously i was not around at the time) and that new faces had taken over where i had left off. I did manage to come over to woodstock earlier in the year for a pleasure session, was approached by a bailiff for my license, got talking to him as you do,but he didn't have a clue who i was. behind me on the bank were most of the committee who mostly ignored me and never even spoke (it does hurt tbh,as most of these ppl at one time had all the time in the world for me) And yes,i have thought many times of asking if i could come back,(I put in over 10 years to the club)but as you can imagine from what i have heard i got the impression i was not welcome so left it. At the moment,i cannot afford a new license to fish, and feel i would be asked to leave if i could not produce one.fishing is the one thing i have left that i enjoy (bearing in mind i worked for my license. If you feel any different to this then please get in contact. I no longer live on the Lliswerry side,as i have moved to malpas, and would love to become part of the "team" again Yours hopefully. mat

I fished Lliswerry abt 12 or so yrs ago, caught an 8lb Jack (my 1 and only Pike in Wales ((so Far)) !) . Since I've now moved down here permanently, and joined NAA, I took a drive out there the other day (family day out !!) on a scouting mission. The Gate to the Car Park is now shut (and locked?) and the old car park looks overgrown, I've heard the stories abt the the troubles, where can you park now to fish there

Hi Mat
Thanks for the reply. My response about any comments to the committee was meant as a bit of a joke. As it obviously didn't come across as such, my apologies.
I am relatively new to the committee (2 years), although a member of NAA for a very long time. I am at a meeting tonight and I will bring up the fact that we have an ex-member , now living in Malpas, who is prepared to assist. The probable outcome will be to contact the Secretary, but I will inform him in advance that he may receive a call from you.
I'll confirm things in a day or so.
Regards
Martyn

Sdc..
If you park up at the gate then walk through the pond to the other side you will see an alleyway.
Instead of turning onto hawthorn ave, take the turning for ringland/alway (aberthaw road),follow the road down and take your second turning right (forget the name) but there is a shop on the lefthand side as you turn (so you know your on the right road).
Go past the shop about 100 yrds and park up. in front of you,you will see a bridge with a subway (getting your bearings) but to the right you will see the alley that leads to the pond (in between the end house and old brick building),walk up the alley and that will lead you to the bottom half of the pond.
Parking here isn't the safest place i know, but for ppl with limited access it is the easiest.
Dont leave anything on show in the car,or it will be gone.
Hope this helps
mat.
