Ive not fished the assosiation stretch for a few years, but did fish the saracens stretch for many years, and the possibilty of decent chub was always on the cards.
Wasp grub and slugs trotted along the far bank usually meant a chub in the net.

Would that be the bridge near the weir?? Used to canoe there when I lived in Bassaleg (lots of golf balls to be had as well ;D)
Any chance of a pike there?? Want to concentrate on some piking very soon and am after my first double. Any help would be appreciated......

Tbh tim,if your after pike, and i'm not sure there are any on that stretch, you would be better moving down stream a bit to the back of the old saracens rugby club.
bit deeper slower water there, and alot of over hanging tree's.

Tredegar park can be fished, and iirc it is a free stretch.
Try not to fish the lower part tho, move up towards the top half.maggots work well as do worm, castor etc.
Not alot of variaty tbh, mostly small trout, eels, perch, and small chub and roach.
hth's.

Let us know how you get on Stevo, be interesting to find out. The last time I fished there I was about 12 and they had a fishing-sleepover event. Won a bag of groundbait for a nice bream!! ;D Can't even remember what it looks like

On some of the deeper stretches its possible to run a stick float through, although i often used touch legering, bounce a light lead through the swim and keep in contact with it as bites can come at anytime.
Swim feeders work too,but keep it tight on bait release.cover some of the holes on maggot feeders so the feeder doesn't get washed out to quick.
Most of all dont be afraid to experiment as rivers and tactics change season to season. come back and tell us how you got on.

Hmm It is so vague as to where the Newport Naa stretch is. People talk of Maesglas and Tesco but where do you access this venue. A fellow NAA member and myself fished above the wier recently and had 5 Brown Trout between us. We did not catch any other species other than 1 Eel. I think we need some clear guidelines. The current NAA license does not help because the rules and regs or even venues are not explained. Kindest regards John
